THE Coronet Bay, Corinella and neighbouring communities turned up in droves for the Smoking and Lake Naming Ceremony on Sunday.
More than 200 people were in attendance.
The Coronet Bay Ratepayers and Residents Committee (supported by the Coronet Bay Ratepayers and Residents Association) organised a fabulous community celebration to officially name the local lake, Wang Toolome Parnung.
Linda Nicholls, vice president Coronet Bay Ratepayers and Residents Committee, was MC on the day.
Bunurong/ Palawa man Josh West from the Bunurong Land Council and his son, Danny West conducted a wonderful and moving ‘Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony’.
Professor John Thwaites AM Chair of Melbourne Water and Josh West then unveiled the sign.
This was followed by brief speeches given by Prof John Thwaites, Deputy Mayor, Cr Rochelle Halstead and Angela Christa (CBRRA member).
Bass MP Jordan Crugnale was also in attendance to enjoy the celebration.
It was a wonderful opportunity for the Waterline communities and visitors to join together and acknowledge how lucky they are to have this environmental treasure and the rich habitats it supports.
