THE 2025 Men’s Country Week Team from South Gippsland, playing at Mildura this week got off to a good start in the Plate Division looking a good chance to qualify for the Shield Division next year.
They won their first two games this week and then went on to take the game against North Eastern on Tuesday morning 4.5 to 2.5 to be sitting pretty on top.
But, in the match against the next best team Golf Central on Tuesday afternoon, they went down 5-2 and with the bye on Wednesday, they had to wait and see how Golf Central fared against North Eastern to see if they won the Plate.
At the halfway mark, after nine holes at Riverside Mildura on Wednesday morning, three of the seven matches were even, with the other four sitting two either way, Golf Central leading 2up in two and North Eastern leading 2up and 3up in the other two. South Gippsland needs North Eastern to claim two of those matches for them to win the week on percentage and progress to the Shield Division next year.
At the start of the back nine, North Eastern coverted one of those losing matches to a 1up lead and stayed firm with three other at even to improve the position for South Gippsland.
Team members include Roy Fleming (Manager), Michael Thomas, Matt Wrigley, Levi Perkins, Isaac Batty, Jye Kruyer, Steve Bromby (Captain), Chris Buckland, Arron Morris, Wayne Kennedy (assistant manager), and Jack Jacobsen.
