Australian native orchid wins Champion Orchid of Show

A FIRST time entrant from East Gippsland has won Champion Orchid of the Show in the 35th Annual South Gippsland Orchid Show at the Wonthaggi Workmen’s Club.

A feast for the eyes and senses an amazing variety of orchids are on display until Saturday with Cymbidiums again proving to be a crowd favourite.

The 35th Annual South Gippsland Orchid Show is open from 9.30am to 4pm at the Wonthaggi Workmen’s Club in Graham Street Wonthaggi from Friday September 12 to Saturday September 13.

Despite a breathtaking line-up of outstanding orchids from local growers judges were impressed by the presentation, colour and vigour of the Dendrobium Ray's Quest entered by Raymond Gribble of Bairnsdale.

“I wished it was mine,” said Show Marshall Julie Kilgour.

Volunteers have been kept busy right from when the doors opened early Friday.
