IT’S high culture at the Berninneit arts centre in Cowes this weekend as The Victorian State Ballet brings its highly-acclaimed production of Swan Lake to the Phillip Island stage for the very first time.
Not since opening weekend at the $32 million centre in November last year has ballet been featured in the new theatre.
But across the weekend, for a Saturday, June 1 matinee at 2pm, a Saturday night show at 7.30pm and again on Sunday, June 2 at 2pm, the full production with its famous Tchaikovsky themes and original Reisinger choreography, faithfully rendered by Marius Petipa and re-staged by Michelle Sierra will arrive in all its glory.
However if you thought about making a late run for tickets, the three productions have been sold out for months.
This morning, the main streets of Cowes witnessed dancers and crew arriving, picking up coffees along the way as they headed for Berninneit.
All agreed they were looking forward to the productions and were thrilled with the local support.
A timeless romantic story of magic, sacrifice and tragedy featuring its unforgettable White Swan pas de deux, the time-honoured 32 fouettes of the Black Swan and the world famous Four Cygnets' Dance, the four famous acts are sure to thrill audiences just as much.
Among the cast members are several internationally recognised artists in leading roles with the opportunity for patrons to experience the sheer delight of superb, world-class classical ballet right here on Phillip Island.
This is what those behind the Berninneit project envisaged for Bass Coast, first-class entertainment in the local community, for locals to enjoy.
