Fermenting and preserving workshop at Wonthaggi Men’s Shed

1 min read

HAD a great harvest but don’t want any of the produce to go to waste?

Don’t miss out on the Bass Cost Living Lightly fermenting and preserving workshop at the Wonthaggi Men’s Shed on August 16.

Discover the fundamentals of preserving and fermenting food as a way of using up excess produce from the garden and providing a delicious range of tasty food items.

This workshop is presented as a part of the Living Lightly partnership between Bass Coast Shire Council, Bass Coast Adult Learning and local community gardens.

Living Lightly workshops come under four different themes Energy Evolution, Future Foods, Garden Gems and Circular Solutions.

The fermenting and preserving workshop will be presented by Harriet Pellizzer who after 25 years in retail and hospitality now teaches literacy, numeracy, and job skills at Bass Coast Adult Learning (BCAL).

Harriet is passionate about helping people feel stronger and more included by making their homes and communities more affordable, sustainable and resilient.

Bass Coast Mayor Cr Rochelle Halstead is excited at the variety of topics covered and opportunities offered in the Living Lightly series.

“There are 40 workshops spread throughout the year with so many different and worthwhile subjects covered, so there’s something for everyone.”

“I’m looking forward to getting my hands dirty at one of the gardening workshops later in the year,” said Cr Halstead.

“I encourage everyone to take advantage of these free workshops and learn something to help you live greener and lighten the load on our planet.”

The Living Lightly fermenting and preserving workshop will be held at the Wonthaggi Men’s Shed on August 16 from 10am to 11.30am.

The Wonthaggi Men's Shed is located in Wonthaggi Railway Precinct.
