BASS Coast’s beloved gem, Kilcunda, has been announced as a finalist in a major tourism award, proving Kilcunda isn’t just a town you drive through, it’s a place worth hitting the brakes for. And Bass Coast Shire Council are encouraging our community and all who love Kilcunda to vote now and help steer Kilcunda into the winner’s lane.
Each year the Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC) hosts the Victorian Top Tourism Town Awards to showcase the value of tourism to the towns and communities across Victoria, celebrating the diversity and outstanding regional destinations our state has to offer.
Bass Coast Shire Council is proud to celebrate Kilcunda’s nomination as a finalist in the Top Tiny Tourism Towns category alongside other towns with a population below 1500 people such as Flinders, Marlo, Halls Gap and Noojee.
Known for its iconic trestle bridge, surf beach, and the George Bass Coastal Walk and the Bass Coast Rail Trail right on its doorstep, Kilcunda is a haven for nature lovers, active travellers, and those seeking an authentic seaside escape.
With its vibrant local events like the Kilcunda Lobster Festival and Running Festival, friendly community, and laid-back charm, the town offers visitors a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation.
It’s also a big moment for the passionate local businesses who help shape the visitor experience and are celebrating being featured in the official award itinerary. Highlights include the Kilcunda General Store, The Sticks, and the Ocean View Hotel, where sweeping views pair perfectly with a seasonal menu. Visitors can fall asleep to the sound of the ocean at the Kilcunda Ocean View Motel or the family-friendly Kilcunda Oceanview Holiday Park.
According to the Shire, the nomination reflects the exciting growth and renewed energy in Kilcunda. Recent business booms, important government investments, and the passion of local business owners, tourism operators, community groups, and residents are all coming together to create something truly special.
Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Rochelle Halstead said the nomination is something the whole community should be proud of.
“It's fantastic to see Kilcunda recognised as a finalist in these awards," Mayor Halstead said.
"Over the past few years, we’ve seen real changes driven by your voices, from the safety and accessibility improvements on the Bass Highway to the new skate park and playspace that families are already loving. I’m incredibly proud of what’s happening here, and I hope everyone gets behind Kilcunda and casts a vote.”
Public voting is open now and individuals who cast a vote will automatically go into a draw to win One Perfect Melbourne Stay, a two-night stay at the luxurious Sofitel Melbourne on Collins and dining vouchers redeemable at some of Melbourne’s best restaurants.
