SO, what’s going on at the Korumburra Community Hub.
Not even two years old, writes a local Sentinel-Times’ reader, and they’ve already got major problems with the underfloor plumbing.
Turns out it’s the users of the facility, and not the Council that’s stuffed up this time… quite literally!
“Dear Editor, here’s something for you to investigate,” they said.
“The Korumburra Hub opened on November 10, 2023, but is undergoing a complete replacement of the ground floor meeting room flooring due to underfloor sewerage plumbing leaks.
“Who signed off on the underfloor infrastructure?” they wanted to know.
We put the questions to the shire.
- Is flooring being replaced?
Yes, a portion of the ground floor at the Korumburra Hub has been replaced.
- What was the problem?
The issue arose due to a sewer blockage caused by non-flushable items being flushed down the toilets in the new building. This blockage led to a back-up of sewage, which infiltrated a section of the flooring. That affected portion has since been professionally remediated and replaced. To prevent a recurrence, a second Overflow Relief Gully (ORG) has been installed as a precautionary measure.
- Who is covering the cost of the works
A certified remediation company was engaged to carry out the clean-up and sanitisation of the impacted area. Following this, a registered building contractor replaced the section of flooring that had been removed during the remediation process. The cost of these works is being covered by an insurance claim.
So, all’s well that ends well but please, don’t flush “non-flushable items” down the toilet at the Hub, or anywhere else for that matter.
