‘Loud bang’ as Foster earthquake hits on Tuesday

1 min read

MOST people in Foster, and some in the surrounding area, felt the small earthquake which hit the area at 12.15pm on Tuesday, February 6.

The quake was recorded at a magnitude of 3.3 by Geoscience Australia which received some public feedback about the event.

The quake was centred north of Foster, between Milford and Gunyah, north east of Dollar at a depth of 1km.

Cr Scott Rae, who lives in the area, said the house shook, there was “a huge bang” and he went outside to see what had happened.

“I actually went out and looked for a fallen tree, then realised it must have been a tremor,” said Cr Rae.

According to Victoria SES, no injuries or damage have been recorded.

Some residents in Foster and the towns of Mirboo North, Lang Lang and Meenyian also said they felt the small quake.

“For a few seconds it felt and sounded like it would if my kids were running around upstairs,” one person said.

“My windows started shaking and me and the cats were like, ‘what the hell?’,” another said.

It follows a 3.0 magnitude quake off the coast of Waratah Bay on January 24 this year.
