Off Grid Coffee in Leongatha

1 min read

Despite their sudden off grid existence, Leongatha locals and visitors could still enjoy a caffeine hit on Wednesday, with generators enabling cafes to deliver the valuable pick-me-up.

“We can do coffee and save the stock,” Darren Eastwood of Gippsland Coffee Emporium said as the generator toiled away powering fridges, freezes and the coffee machine.

Joe the Barista was also turning out coffees, with Roger Gill and Sharon Morgan among the customers.

They were grateful not only for the generator but also the existence of cash despite efforts to phase it out.

“It’s wonderful, cash is king and we’re happy to be able to have a coffee; it makes us feel almost normal,” Sharon said.

The pair had ventured to Leongatha from Inverloch, unsure whether their auto electrician had power and not able to communicate by phone.

Unfortunately that business was unable to open but the coffee made the trip worthwhile.
