Praise pours in as San Remo footpath (finally) completed
Tradesmen recently completed footpath works at San Remo reportedly delayed by “Cultural Heritage Matters”.

AFTER months of delay, reportedly due to indigenous cultural heritage issues, the Bass Coast Shire Council promised recently that the footpath works in Marine Parade, San Remo would be completed by the end of the month.

It didn’t look likely while the site remained fenced off and idle for the first few weeks of the month but this week there has been plenty of action.

And on Thursday, July 18, the concrete pour was completed with a big team of concreters on site to trowel it off to a classy finish.

What was all the fuss about?

We may never know.

In a recent response to a query from the Sentinel-Times, the Bass Coast Shire Council said it was “unable to comment on Cultural Heritage Matters”.

The $105,000 project, which was started in April, should finally be clear to walk on next week, a day that can’t come soon enough for local business operators including the Westernport Hotel which is the business that has been most inconvenienced by the delay.

It comes at the start of a busy couple of months of entertainment at the Westernport starting on Friday night, July 19 with Jungle Jim Smith and continuing with Arockalypse Festival on Saturday, August 3 - it's always been about the music at the Westernport!
