Ride the Cyclone promises to excite Wonthaggi audiences
Be prepared for a wild ride when the Wonthaggi Theatrical Group (WTG) presents the hit musical Ride the Cyclone from September 25 through to October 10 at The Shed at the Wonthaggi State Coal Mine.
A THRILLING blend of comedy, tragedy, and powerhouse vocals is about to land on the local stage at The Shed at the State Coal Mine this September when the Wonthaggi Theatrical Group (WTG) presents its upcoming production of the hit musical Ride the Cyclone.
The story follows six teenagers from a Canadian chamber choir who find themselves stranded in a bizarre limbo after a freak, fatal accident on a roller coaster. To escape their fate, they are forced into a surreal competition by a mechanical fortune-teller named The Amazing Karnak.
Played by local crowd favourite Jay Nelson, Karnak controls the narrative as each teenager sings to prove they are the most deserving of a second chance at life.
Directorially ambitious and emotionally charged, the 90-minute show delivers a massive impact in a short runtime. Audiences can expect a rollercoaster of emotions filled with fun, deep vulnerability, laughter, tears, and plenty of drama.
The production strips away the characters' outer facades to reveal their deepest strengths, hopes, dreams, and hidden vulnerabilities through a series of unique visual and musical feasts.
WTG’s production showcases an eclectic mix of musical genres, ensuring there is something for every theatre lover. The show relies on six powerhouse local performers executing complex five-part harmonies, sharp comedic timing, and breathtakingly funky choreography.
True to its core mission, WTG is utilising this production to promote fresh local talent both on and off the stage. A dedicated, creative production team has volunteered hundreds of hours to transform The Shed into a thrilling, unknown world.
Since its off-Broadway debut, Ride the Cyclone has rapidly established a passionate global cult following, making this upcoming local run a highly anticipated event for regional theatre enthusiasts.
The wild ride kicks off on September 25 and runs through to October 10 at The Shed.
