Changing of the guard at the Wonthaggi Croquet Club

1 min read

THE club’s annual general meeting was held on May 21 with two of the existing committee members stepping down after several years in their positions. President Gerry Kool and treasurer Paul Andrews opted not to stand again.

The new committee was duly elected and sworn in, and the club now has Tom Lacey at the helm as president with Neil Warburton as vice president.

Sue Cartwright continues on as secretary and will be backed up by Bert Orr as assistant secretary. Stephen Wilbourne is the new treasurer with Kathy Ross and Marj Prendergast as committee members. The club will be in good hands going forward.

Prior to this, on May 13, six members travelled to Phillip Island to compete in the annual Bass Coast Shield, a singles/doubles competition comprising Wonthaggi, Phillip Island, Korumburra and Leongatha.

This is always a challenging but fun day. However, no accolades for Wonthaggi this year as it was narrowly beaten by Korumburra.

Phillip Island finished third with Leongatha bringing up the rear. On the weekend of May 24 and 25, four members competed in the Lakes Entrance Singles event.
Tom Lacey competed in Section 1, winning one game.

Neil Warburton and Virginia Wheeler in Section 2 won one game and four games respectively with Sue Baker in Section 3 winning five games and finishing a credible third. Bragging rights on the way home for Sue.
