MEN and boys across South Gippsland have been invited to a free International Men’s Day event in Foster featuring long-serving local GP Dr Phil Worboys.

South Gippsland Hospital will host the evening on Tuesday November 17 from 5pm to 7pm at the Community Health Centre, 87 Station Road, Foster.

Those attending will enjoy a free barbecue dinner and an informal question-and-answer session with Dr Worboys, whose medical career has spanned more than 35 years in the local community.

This year’s International Men’s Day theme, “The Future Is Everyone”, focuses on supporting men and boys while promoting inclusion, wellbeing, healthy relationships and stronger communities.

Dr Worboys has worked across obstetrics, anaesthetics, emergency medicine, inpatient care, aged care and home visiting during his career.

Through his long-standing work at Foster Medical Centre, he developed a particular passion for men’s health and supporting both physical and mental wellbeing.

His view of health has also been shaped by personal experience.

In 2015 Dr Worboys suffered a serious bicycle accident that left him with multiple injuries and ongoing health challenges.

His recovery has given him insight into chronic pain, fatigue, depression, head injury recovery and long-term rehabilitation.

Now semi-retired, Dr Worboys still consults and enjoys gardening, golf, travel and exploring the area with his dog, Archie Rose.

On the night he will share stories from his medical career, discuss lessons learned through adversity and offer practical advice on staying healthy through different stages of life.

South Gippsland Hospital said the evening was a chance for local men to connect, learn and talk about health in a welcoming and supportive environment.

The event is free but bookings are essential. RSVP by calling 5683 9777 or emailing reception@sghs.com.au.
