WITH a price tag of $1.77 million, you’d be expecting a high degree of sophistication from Wonthaggi Guide Park Playspace redevelopment project.
And the level of detail that has gone into the design, by local firm Orchard Design, now being incorporated into the build by contractors for the principal builder Planned Constructions Pty Ltd, needs to be seen to be fully appreciated.
Make no mistake, this isn’t about a new set of swings and a kiddies’ slide.
The redevelopment will create an accessible, intergenerational space that offers a variety of challenging experiences for all age groups and abilities, while also providing natural shade and park amenities for residents and visitors.
The district’s kids, visiting children of all abilities, right through to the residents from nearby Rose Lodge, there’ll be something for everyone.
The design draws upon extensive community consultation with elements reflecting the shire’s coal mining history and amazing natural environment.
This project includes, but is not limited to:

• The development of new regional scale playspace, including a mine-themed slide tower, flying foxes, a trampoline, wheelchair accessible carousel, gentle exercise area and nature based play.
• Supporting infrastructure including a drinking fountain, bike racks, pathways, fencing and an accessible BBQ.
• Landscaping works including garden beds, mature trees and irrigation works.
• Changes to the internal road configuration to create more parking and improved vehicle access.
The project is taking shape on a daily basis, on target for completion in November.
It’s going to be a real feature for the town.
