IT WASN’T just Shaun Burgoyne joining the 400 games club on Saturday.
Nyora legend Matt ‘Nugget’ Layton etched the historic milestone in red, white, and black when he took on Ellinbank in the reserves.
Nugget, who has achieved plenty on and off the field for the Saints, was clapped onto the ground by both clubs as he ran through the banner with his daughter Isabelle and son Alex.
As usual the veteran gave it his all out on the field, but it wasn’t quite enough to get the win, going down by 29 points to the ladder leaders.
After the senior game, the crowd headed into the rooms to listen to a few of
Nugget’s closest friends talk about his impact at the club.
They also shared a couple of funny stories about the club legend.
Nugget is just the second person at Nyora to reach the 400-game mark, so even
Howler Brewery got behind the occasion, creating a ‘Nugget 400 Draught’ for the Nyora faithful to sip on.
