Kookaburras swoop on Swampers

THE South Gippsland Kookaburras took on the Koo Wee Rup Swampers at the Korumburra Rec Reserve last Sunday, hoping to make it four from four.
On a pure summer’s day at the Burra Rec, curator “Clackers” had the strip looking a picture.

Thank you to the Burra Cricket Club for their superb facilities and help.

A somewhat reluctant Co-Captain Neil “Whitey” White won the toss and elected to “Go the Gray Nicholls”.

Grayza Wighty and Norm “Evergreen” Fraser opened up and got through a very accurate and wily Swampers attack.

Like the new South Gippy Shire Council Members, the Kookas had to think quickly on their feet against some excellent trundlers. The brains trust of the team then rested control.

Peter “Perfect” Little 26 no , Roby “See it, Smack it” Francis 28no and Mr Cricket Adams compiling an elegant, Greg Chappell like 37no off a lazy 25 balls.

Great support down the order allowed the canny Kookas to amass a respectable 7/166 off their allotted 40 overs.

After lunch and a chat, the Koowy Swampers wielded their blades.

Mr Cricket Adams and Mike “Melbourne” Newton took the new pill, with Dee Newton getting one through the gate.

Loozy bowled only three overs then did a “Walk Off”.

The mystery was soon solved, when he reappeared, padded up for the Swampers.

He then “Pearl Harboured” the shell-shocked Kookas to the tune of 32 off 20 Balls - with three towering sixes.

Then Adams got one through the Lashing Loos, the Kookas needed to regroup, and did, finally bowling out the Swamp Men for 144, with two overs to spare.

Best of the Bowlers were Gazza Adams 3/13, Robby Francis 2/12, and Pete Little 1/10.

Special mentions to Greg Goss and Trev Wilson who both wicket kept and did a fine job.

Cricket, friendship, and fun were the winners.

Loozy did redeem himself, with his excellent chicken snittas after the game.

Next week the Barnstorming Kookas take on Mitcham – five from five looms, with the rumour that Dougy Pell may be returning to the fray against his old team after a somewhat short retirement.
