PHILLIP Island Community and Learning Centre hosted the Rainbow Ready Roadmap Information and Engagement Workshop on Wednesday, September 28.
Presented by Daniel Witthaus of Rural Pride Australia in conjunction with LGBTIQ+ Commissioner and descendant of the Kalarie peoples of the Wiradjuri nation, Dr Todd Fernando, the event was a successful introduction to the Rainbow Ready roadmap, which is a set of resources for Victorian rural and regional communities to build LGBTIQ+ inclusion.
Supported by the Victorian Government’s Pride in our future: Victoria’s LGBTIQ+ strategy 2022-32 enabling the creation of safe, strong and sustainable communities, the Rainbow Ready roadmap includes five tailored setting guides to support users in their unique operating context – community groups, health and community services, local government, businesses and other services, and learning environments.
Connecting local communities, the Rainbow Ready roadmap works at a local level built by regional communities.
“We understand state-wide a high-level approach is required, but local pride and equality looks very different,” LGBTIQ+ Commissioner Dr Todd Fernando said.
“We want people to see themselves reflected in South Gippsland, and for public service to understand the realities at a local level.
“Because pride and equality look very different in Bass Coast to pride and equality in Sale.
“The roadmap is a series of resources that will improve the lives of LGBTIQ+ Victorians across our state by building on the work of the Rural Regional Roadshow to create even more inclusive and supportive communities and growing our allies across regional and rural Victoria.”
The Rainbow Ready roadmap is also a tool to assist organisations in their pathway to the nationally recognised Rainbow Tick accreditation.
