OMK Cricket Club raises over $50,000 for McGrath Foundation

1 min read

DESPITE the cancellation of the OMK Cricket Clubs Pink Stumps Day because of the storm, the club still managed to raise a whopping $51085,00 for the Jane McGrath Foundation.
Each year for the past nine years Pink Stumps Day has proven to be a significant community fundraiser with all proceeds going to the Jane McGrath Foundation, who aim to provide breast care nurses to all women with breast cancer in Australia.
Usually, a catered day out would be held, with the community coming along to watch cricket, kick back, drink champaign and then bid on items at the live auction, to help raise funds.
After the storm cancelled the event out, the organisation committee swung into action and not to be thwarted in their fundraising efforts, took the auction online where goods and services donated by local businesses and groups were successfully auctioned off.
The committee also ran a number of smaller projects throughout the year which contributed to the final amount raised.
They purchased a couple of items and raffled them off, with a particular Dyson Airwrap, a hair styling tool proving to be one highly sought after item.
There was also the cattle project, where the committee sold off about 60 head of cattle, making a solid contribution of about $27,000 to the final amount.
Committee member Andrea Curtis said that they also often just receive donations from people and businesses themselves.
"It's quite big and the community love it and have ownership over it, which is really good," explained Andrea.
Next year will mark the 10th year of fundraising and according to Andrea, there are already plans and projects in place for next year's event.
