THOSE who love historical agricultural machinery and old vehicles will be in for a treat if they are attending Poowong’s 150th Anniversary Celebrations this April.
The Poowong Historical Society will be exhibiting historical agricultural machinery, cars and trucks that have a special connection with Poowong, on the grounds of the Pioneer Chapel during the festivities.
On display, will be about 20 pieces of equipment that are connected to farming in Poowong as well as a number of vehicles that were owned by past or current Poowong residents.
This includes a 1964 Bedford truck which has been passed down through five generations of Sabens who were originally farmers in the area.
A display highlight will be a 19th Century horse wagon that was brought to Poowong with the first settlers in the 1870’s and the same family still have it in their possession today.
Then there will be the classic red Massey Ferguson tractor that has been motoring for decades and remains in the same Poowong family.
There will be a blurb with each item, explaining what each piece of equipment is and how it is connected to Poowong.
The chapel will also be open for perusing and various local historical items will be on display in there as well.
The Poowong Pioneer Chapel and grounds will be open with the indoor and outdoor exhibits on Sunday April 21 from 10am to 3pm.
The exhibition is part of the Poowong’s 150th Anniversary Celebrations which will run from Friday to Sunday April 19 to 21, with various events and activities held over the weekend.
