THE LDCA under 15 boys hosted Traralgon at Inverloch on Sunday in their JCW match.
Keen to get back on the winners list after a loss to Sale Maffra the previous week, LDCA won the toss and elected to bat on a good-looking pitch that produced 470 runs the day before in a classic A grade match between Inverloch and Nerrena.
Some changes to the LDCA batting line up saw Heath Womersley 49 (Phillip Island) and Riley Harris (Inverloch) open the innings.
Riley chopped one on early which brought Rhys Newman 55 (Inverloch) to the crease, both boys played very well and their ability to play straight and drive the ball through the covers was a highlight in their 100-run partnership.
With such a good foundation the boys were encouraged to bat with freedom and go after a big total, Clayton Quaife 18 (OMK) and Andot Mankhong 19 (Wonthaggi) batted with good intent and a total of 8/183 was posted.
Our turn to bowl saw George McCausland (PI) and Isaac Bolge (Imperials) take the new ball thes two have formed a very good new ball combination with swing and accuracy a feature.
Early wickets saw Traralgon on the back foot and the introduction of leg spinner Andot led to more wickets, with so many bowling options the LDCA were able to share the bowling around with everyone bowling well to dismiss Traralgon for 74.
Best bowling figures were Andot with 3/10 off nine with McCausland, Bolge, Riddell, McGrath, Casey, McLennan and Berryman each claiming a wicket.
The boys take on Bairnsdale this Sunday at Korumburra in a game that is a must win for their chances of making the Grand Final.
Under 13s
The LDCA under 13 boys took on Bairnsdale on Sunday in Round 4 of the GCL Developement League at East Campus in Leongatha, this was a battle between two undefeated teams and both were full of confidence.
Bairnsdale won the toss and elected to bat with star batter Campbell Moncreiff who came off a century in his previous under 13 GCL game opening the batting.
As has been the case in recent games the LDCA opened the bowling with dynamic duo Jobe Williams (Phillip Island) and Louis Read (Koonwarra) and Williams dismissed Moncreiff with the first ball of the match.
Then, again as has been the case in several other games, Williams and Read tore through the top order to have Bairnsdale 5/13, Ty Debono (Inverloch) also got in on the act coming on at first change with two wickets to have them 7/26 then eventually all out for 64.
Jobe Williams and Louis Read both claimined 2/4 off 4 overs and Ty Debono took 2/5 off 4 overs, single wicket - takers were Max Johnston (Foster) Cole Munday (MDU) and Evan Belvedere (Korumburra), a great team performance all round.
LDCA’s turn to bat saw a clinical performance with Eamon Berryman (Nerrena) retire on 30 after he and Evan Belvedere 14 put together a 47-run opening stand against some very good bowling.
LDCA passed the total with the loss of only two wicket and with contributions from Ty Debono who made 29, and from all the batters, the final score ended up 4/136.
The under 13 boys this week travel to Trafalgar to take on the Latrobe Valley.
