BASS Coast Shire Council has taken possession of the Wonthaggi Men’s Shed after the Community Garden Group was locked out earlier this week.
The Wonthaggi Men’s Shed explained in an advertisement that they had made an executive decision to shut down the garden group operating within the grounds of the Men’s Shed precinct.
Bass Coast Shire Council took possession of the Wonthaggi Men’s Shed late Thursday afternoon and according to CEO Greg Box council remains hopeful that the members of the Men’s Shed will participate in mediation and a resolution will be reached.
Cr Mat Morgan who has been working with council staff to resolve the dispute said new agreements need to be drawn up before the site can be re-opened.
“This has been a very disappointing couple of weeks for a lot of people,” Cr Morgan said.
Council horticultural staff have agreed to keep the community garden watered. Bass Coast Shire Council which leases the land to the Wonthaggi Men’s Shed said it will continue to work closely with everyone involved to find a positive way forward.
