No to mandates, they say

A GROUP of residents in Wonthaggi were busy spreading their message on International Women’s Day calling for an end to vaccine mandates.

The small, but respectful group, were calling for an end of mandates for industries such as healthcare and emergency services.

They stated that many experienced workers in those industries had lost their jobs for choosing not to be fully vaccinated, and the impact locally has been concerning.

They also claimed more women have lost their jobs due to the mandates, which is why they chose to protest on women’s day.

Victorian Government pandemic orders used to say that most workers had to be vaccinated against COVID-19 coronavirus to work outside their home.

Those laws finished on June 24, 2022. The law no longer says you must be vaccinated to work outside your home, except in certain industries, such as healthcare.

However, vaccination requirements apply in:

  • public health services
  • public hospitals
  • denominational hospitals
  • private hospitals and day procedure centres
  • ambulance services
  • patient transport services that are engaged or engaged by a health service or Ambulance Victoria
  • residential aged care services operated by public health services
  • Forensicare (via Ministerial Directions, influenza only).
