THE Leongatha Lyric Theatre presented the Mel Brooks musical – ‘The Producers’ with a packed opening night at the Memorial Hall on Friday evening, with the show running until July 15.

‘The Producers’ is a commentary on the pitfalls of craving money over less tangible but longer-lasting assets, such as friendship and love, with cast member Jay Nelson playing Max Bialystock – a manipulative character who plays an amusing performance alongside Sam Shineberg in the lead role of Leopold Bloom.

The pair left the audience in laughter and applause with Sam presenting Leopold magnificently – one under immense pressure with great humour in his personality; whilst Jay displayed Max thoroughly as commanding and pretentious.

The show displayed adult humour, with Kerryn Moren cast as Ulla – bringing beauty and grace to the stage, Ulla presented flair in her vocals to her opening song ‘When you got it, flaunt it.’

The audience praised the bright and powerful style in the costume and were ready for the outrageous in-your-face humour that the show presented, with ‘the little old ladies’ choreography and the role of Taine Lowe playing Carmen Ghia and Dan Lawrie playing Roger De Bris, a highlight.

The cast will perform 13 shows until July 15 with tickets available at the door of the Leongatha Memorial Hall or via their Facebook page - www.facebook.com/LyricLeongatha/
