Senior dog rescued as crews battled Wonthaggi fire
A SENIOR dog has been rescued as firefighters work to bring a fire in North Wonthaggi under control.
FOUR pets, including a senior dog, were safely returned to their owners following a house fire in North Wonthaggi on Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency services were first alerted to the fire at 2.22pm on Tuesday, August 11, with police and firefighters both attending the scene.
No one was home when the fire broke out, however two dogs and two cats belonging to the occupant were at the property.
One of the dogs was already outside when firefighters arrived, and crews were able to rescue the second dog and two cats from inside the property, with all four animals safely returned to their owners.
Five firefighting appliances responded to the incident, including three from Wonthaggi, one from Dalyston and one from Inverloch.
The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen, and the house sustained heat and smoke damage as a result of the blaze.
After the incident, firefighters reminded residents of the importance of ensuring they have a working smoke alarm in their home.
