Here’s our top 10 NYE resolutions – what’s yours?

NOT into New Year’s Resolutions? Fair enough. But there’s nothing wrong with making a plan or setting a few goals for the new year ahead – which is just what a “resolution” is after all.

Here’s our top 10 NYE resolutions – what’s yours?

NOT into New Year’s Resolutions? Fair enough.

But there’s nothing wrong with making a plan or setting a few goals for the new year ahead – which is just what a “resolution” is after all.

And as Benjamin Franklin said: “If You Fail to Plan, You Are Planning to Fail”.

So here are our 'Top 10' New Year’s Resolutions for inspiration:

  1. FOCUS ON IMPROVING YOUR HEALTH: That’s not a hard one given the year we’ve just had but keeping the weight off and staying fit is an important part of that so definitely think about setting a few goals around fitness and the best time to start is right now!
  2. LOOK AFTER YOUR FINANCES: All homeowners, both city and country, can certainly tick this box after the run real estate has had in 2021 but for those still trying to get into the property market, looking after your finances has got to be a big goal in 2022.
  3. PURSUE AN ASPIRATION: If there’s one thing in the back of your mind that you’ve always wanted to do but “never found the time for”, this year is it, whether it’s an extra qualification, writing a book, researching the family tree, doing a marathon. Make a goal, set a realistic timeline, and stick to it.
  4. INVEST IN YOUR RELATIONSHIPS: Try to make time for family and friends, but also consider branching out to build new friendships or reconnect with old ones.
  5. LOOK AFTER YOUR MENTAL HEALTH: It’s been one of the themes of 2021, and for many the stress and pressure has been real. Make time for physical exercise and activities with others, but don’t be afraid to seek professional help, they have strategies that really work.
  6. LIVE MORE SUSTAINABLY: The New Year is the perfect time to change your lifestyle and start living life the way you want to live it. And there’s a lot each individual can do to make a difference, volunteering to improve the local environment, going solar, cutting back on waste and recycling.
  7. CUT BACK ON YOUR SCREENTIME: Combined, how many hours-a-day are you putting into your phone (especially social media), laptop and TV… staggering isn’t! Make it your mission to reconnect with reality and focus on living more in the moment.
  8. READ MORE BOOKS & NEWSPAPERS: Look, we’re going to say read more books and newspapers, aren’t we, but there is pure enjoyment and escapism to be found in reading. It’s also clear that literacy levels are dropping below the level most people need for work and other pursuits. Make it a promise to read more in 2022.
  9. GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE: One good thing (struggling here) about COVID-19 is it has made us do things and see things differently. Set a goal to try something different, more than one thing different, this year; take a class, join a sporting team, try a dating app, have a go – it might change everything.
  10. PLAN THAT ONCE IN A LIFETIME TRIP: OK, it might not be the best time to travel overseas as Omicron ramps up, but you can still research and plan, plus there’s heaps of trips in Australia to do; visit Tasmania again, get a boot full of wine in the Barossa or hit the outback trail.

What’s your New Year’s Resolution?
