Koala romance in Inverloch

INVERLOCH local Lucia Carotenuto was delighted to witness a koala romance right outside her front door recently.

She said a large male had been hanging around her place for a few days and was calling every night for a mate.

When Lucia opened her door one morning, she discovered his fortunes had changed for the better.

“She is a little beauty,” she said of his new companion.

The new couple snuggled up before going their separate ways but initially didn’t stray too far from each other.

“At the moment he is in my front yard and she is sleeping on a tree next door,” Lucia said.

She called on people to be careful around koalas and show them kindness and respect, saying it’s the least we can do after the horrific Black Summer bushfires of 2019-20.

Lucia urges people to be mindful of koalas when driving and to be sure their dogs don’t harm the native marsupials.

Lucia would love to see a positive outcome from the local koala coupling.

“I really hope this beautiful girl will become a mum as we desperately need the koala population to grow,” she said.
