Landmark occasion as key hospital works finished

THE Wonthaggi Hospital $115m expansion hit a milestone last week, with all structural works now complete.

Bass MP Jordan Crugnale toured the major redevelopment last Friday, which is on track to be finished in October 2022, creating hundreds of new jobs.

Ms Crugnale joined Bass Coast Health CEO Jan Child, Victorian Health Building Authority representatives, as well as numerous staff from both the hospital and construction company to tour the site and see first-hand how works have progressed.

To mark the event last week, a native tree was placed at the top of the new structure, which will soon be planted and incorporated into the landscaping at the facility.

Once complete, Wonthaggi Hospital will have the capacity to treat an extra 26,000 emergency patients a year, helping meet the future demand for the growing shire.

The major expansion will pave the way for 18 additional emergency department treatment spaces, three new theatres, a procedure room, 32 inpatient beds and new car parking.

The project is being delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority in partnership with Bass Coast Health and Kane Constructions, creating up to 345 local jobs during the peak of construction.
