THE Inverloch Community Soundshell, a Lions Club of Inverloch and District project, was formally opened by MP Jordan Crugnale, on Sunday, November 28.
Control of the facility was also officially handed over to the Bass Coast Shire Council, with Deputy Mayor Cr Leticia Laing accepting on behalf of council.
Both gave short speeches, congratulating the efforts of the members of the Lions Club in constructing such a wonderful asset for the community.
In perfect weather, following another successful Lions Farmers Market, Sonia Weston from Bunurong Land Council opened proceedings with a Welcome to Country.
Lions president Ian Rasmussen then welcomed the Member for Bass, Jordan Crugnale, Deputy Mayor Cr Leticia Laing, guests and supporters.
He gave special thanks to Klaus Edel for taking the initiative to apply for the grant of $200,000 from the ‘Pick My Project’ fund, which, when obtained, got the project up and running.
A thank-you was also extended to Bass Coast Shire Council for contributing significant funds and also to their staff who were very helpful with their advice and cooperation in getting the project organised, the Lions Club said.
Lion Gary McAinch was also thanked for his many hours contributed to organising and overseeing the construction.
All Lions that had contributed to the raising of funds along the way, as well as the Australian Lions Foundation and Invy Katz Music Group - who also contributed funds to the project - were also thanked for their efforts.
Mr McAinch, who oversaw the construction of the soundshell project from the first shovel of dirt through to fruition, followed this with a moving and heartfelt speech about the building process and the ups and downs in the soundshell’s construction.
Thanks were given to all the parties involved, with a special mention to Tony O’Connell and Richard Northeast - the designers and engineers of the project.
The club extended a special thank-you to the Inverloch Garden Club for supplying the flowers for the stage, also to Hiawatha Farm and Laura’s Cakes for preparing the delicious cakes for afternoon tea, and to Coffee’s Up for providing coffee and drinks for guests.
“Thanks to all who attended to help Lions celebrate the fruition of the soundshell project,” the club said.
