ENTRIES are now open for South Gippsland Shire Council’s Australia Day Film and Photography Competition.

But hurry, your entry has to be in by January 16, 2022.

Images and films should reflect the theme ‘Australia Day – Reflect, Respect, Celebrate: We’re all part of the Story’.

The Australia Day Film and Photography Competition is open to all South Gippsland residents and is part of a wider Australia Day program that will run across the region. Australia Day events will be coordinated by local community groups with support from Council.

“The Australia Day Film and Photography Competition provides a way for South Gippsland residents to show their creativity whilst considering the important ‘Reflect, Respect, Celebrate: We’re all part of the Story’ theme,” said South Gippsland Shire Council Mayor, Mohya Davies.

“I know how talented people are in South Gippsland and would encourage aspiring film makers and photographers to get involved. I look forward to seeing the different entries.”

There are four prize categories as part of the competition, including two categories for children aged 15 and under, to help encourage creativity from South Gippsland’s younger citizens. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners in each category.

Films should be between 2 and 4 minutes in length and both films and images should be set in South Gippsland or nearby.

Entrants are free to interpret the theme however they choose. The work of each finalist will be screened publicly on Australia Day.

The Film and Photography Competition is possible this year due to grant funding through the National Australia Day Council.

Prizes: Best Short Film $800. Best Image $400. Best Short Film (under 15) $200. Best Image (under 15) $100.

To be eligible, film and image submissions must be received by 11.59pm Sunday, January 16, 2022.
