Drivers urged to be cautious
EMERGENCY services remain on-scene at a fire near Venus Bay which had burnt up to property lines.
An emergency warning was issued on New Year’s Eve (Friday, December 31), urging those in the area to shelter indoors.
Shortly before 9pm, authorities said the fire was under control.
At around 11.45pm, people in Tarwin Lower and Venus Bay were advised they could “resume normal activities”.
At 1.39pm today (Saturday, January 1), authorities issued a replacement advice message, with increased wind resulting in more smoke in the area.
Communities may see smoke throughout Saturday, into Sunday, January 2, authorities said.
“Emergency services and fire brigades are on scene attending to the fire; drivers are advised to exercise caution,” the message read.
