KOONWARRA L/RSL has just held on to second spot on the B1 ladder, beating Leongatha Town by six runs at Leongatha Secondary College.
Batting first after winning the toss, Jordan Pickersgill 32 got Koonwarra’s innings off to a nice start, and they found some more runs in the middle order with Nigel Grimes 20 and captain Brendan Tomada 30.
With some more solid scores towards the end of the innings, they worked their way to 7/160 after 40 overs.
Mark Hardy 23 got Town’s chase off to a steady start, and when he was joined by James Dean 70 they grabbed all the momentum.
Steve Fixter 44* soon joined Dean, and they put on a 100-run partnership, it finishing when they were just eight runs behind Koonwarra.
But Koonwarra’s bowlers were up to the challenge, and they kept Town to 5/154 after 40 overs, leaving them in second spot.
Nerrena narrowly knock off MDU
NERRENA has pulled off a very close win against MDU, passing the Demons’ big total in the last over with just three wickets in hand.
Opener Colin Knox 47 had MDU feeling confident early, and then a 73-run partnership with Jai Bright 45 out Nerrena’s backs against the wall.
Mitch McGrath 33 and Kurt Sinclair 20 also had solid knocks and MDU finished at 6/182.
After an early wicket, David Baldi 66 had Nerrena’s score ticking along nicely, and it was then Shaun Sparks 52* who continued their momentum.
With Nerrena needing three to win in the last over, MDU took one wicket to keep the match alive, but Sparks soon saw them over the line, picking up the win by three wickets with a couple of balls to spare.
Sharks finish off strong
PHILLIP Island has completed their near flawless 2021/22 home and away season, beating Korumburra by six wickets and finishing two wins clear in top spot.
Korumburra batted first at Cowes and after multiple early wickets fell, Charlie Carew 28 and captain Glen Barrett 39 rescued the innings, helping them reach 8/129.
Liam Dayson was Phillip Island’s best bowler, taking 3/11 off eight.
Andrew Finlayson 21 and Kurt Lane 28 were seeing them nicely for Phillip Island at the top of the order and then an unbeaten 35 from Geoff Odgers saw them home by six wickets in the 28th over.

PI pummels Nyora at Newhaven
PHILLIP Island has scored another convincing victory, this time over Nyora.
Nyora batted first at Newhaven Recreation Reserve and without Scott Warren’s 43, they would’ve struggled to reach their score of 78 before being bowled out.
With a simple task ahead of them, Phillip Island opener Daniel Bourke wasn’t wasting any time scoring 54* off 35 balls to get them a nine-wicket win in the 11th over.
The result leaves Phillip Island in third spot, and they’ll be taking on Poowong Loch in the semi-final.
Foster falls to Wonthaggi Club
WONTHAGGI Club will also carry momentum into the 2021/22 finals series, after earning a four-wicket win over Foster at the Foster Golf Club.
Foster batted first on their home deck and after a couple of decent scores at the top, Donald Caldwell 21 and Will Roffey 28* led them to 7/132 after 40 overs.
After experiencing a shaky start, Wonthaggi relied on Will Speed 41 and Matrix Chisholm 49 to guide them to victory, and they were able to, despite a five-wicket haul from Roffey.
Roffey finished with 5/34, but Club got the job done by four wickets in the 28th over.
KB creep past Glen Alvie
KILCUNDA Bass has finished off their season on a positive note, narrowly knocking off Glen Alvie at Wonthaggi Recreation Reserve.
After winning the toss Glen Alvie chose to bat, and Andrew Macfarlane 28 was seeing them well opening the batting.
But the rest of the top order couldn’t get going, until Jay Thorn chipped in with a 22 and moved them towards a defendable total.
Glen Alvie eventually finished on 9/122, a sub-par total, but they’re bowlers weren’t going to lie down.
All of Kilcunda Bass’ top order got starts, but they couldn’t turn them into decent scores and when they fell to 5/51 Glen Alvie looked to be on top.
But Christian Elliot 32 turned the momentum with some big hitting, and he kept hitting boundaries when Glen Alvie kept taking wickets and KB eventually got the win by two wickets with three overs to go.
