POOWONG travelled to Nilma Darnum on the weekend.

The ground and conditions were excellent for football.

There were no juniors as Nilma Darnum does not field juniors.

Poowong added Lachie Green to their side to replace Jameel Knecht, who was unavailable.

Poowong Seniors played four quarters of disciplined football, working hard all day to kick their highest score for many years 27.26.188 to Nilma Darnum 1.1.7 - a 181-point victory to help the club’s percentage.

Poowong’s forwards’ discipline was good with nine goal kickers: Alex Henshall 7, Steven McInnes 5, Jack Hazendonk 4, Will Robertson and Alex Doria three each, Cody Loughridge 2 and one each to Jayden Sullivan, Tom Robertson and Kurt Newton.

A great effort by all players across the ground and a real confidence booster to tackle undefeated Neerim South at Poowong this coming Saturday.

Nilma Darnum battled hard on the day but could not match Poowong Seniors.

The good news: Nilma Darnum was able to field Seniors and Reserves teams - a good sign for the future.

Poowong Seniors are fifth on the ladder, four points behind Longwarry, but we have a better percentage after round 6 so a big game this week against Neerim South.

The Reserves with a few new faces defeated Nilma Darnum 12.9.81 to 2.2.14.

The Reserves worked hard in a team effort; keep up the good work.

The Netball came up against some good Nilma Darnum sides. They got the better of us on the day but there was one surprise result. Great to see Dee Chivaroli awarded ‘Volunteer of the Week’ for her work with the netballers. Well done, Dee.

Local footy scores online do not work as efficiently as previously; are we trying to promote country football or bury it? Come on, without the local papers you would not know the games are being played.
