San Remo Hotel-Motel wins big at industry awards

IT HAS been a tough three years for San Remo Hotel-Motel.

If the pandemic wasn’t hard enough for the third-generation pub, then a fire in early January took the icing.

But now after an incredible evening at Crown’s Palladium, San Remo Hotel-Motel has the cherries.

The team walked away with two wins and multiple finalist listings at a recent industry awards event.

Recognised with the state awards for Excellence in Best Casual Dining – Regional and Best Pub Bar – Regional, the feat was a welcome relief on Monday, May 16.

“It’s great recognition for the staff for how hard they worked and the standards that were set,” venue manager Daniel Mock explained.

“We’ve had a pretty tough 12 months – we didn’t have a bistro for 13 weeks.

“To bounce back from that and to get recognition for the work that the crew put in, that’s been good.”

Whilst a diverse range of venues and hospitality heavyweights were recognised for their achievements across 40 different categories at the gala dinner and awards ceremony, San Remo Hotel-Motel’s bounce back is due to the tireless effort of the team and the community.

“The staff are amazing and loyal – they stuck with us through the tough times.

“A lot of the criteria for the two awards is to do with service and presentation – it’s a testament to them.

“I’d love to thank the local community for all their support throughout COVID and especially the fire.

“They are very giving, very supportive of us and very patient, and have come back and supported us better than ever.”

The awards were not only a celebration but also provided the team an excuse to dress up, network and enjoy a rare evening in the city.

“Events like that have been few and far between.

“Getting to know other people in the industry was good, as well as sharing ideas and having fun.”

And after a night of letting their hair down, the team are back in action and ready for winter.

“We are trading as normal at the moment – there will be some changes and hopefully some improvements to come, which is exciting.

“And the function room is back in action ready for birthdays, weddings, engagements, sporting clubs!”
