WONTHAGGI Primary School today launched their bid for $20 million in redevelopment to bring their facilities up to scratch.

Joined by Liberal Candidate for Bass, Aaron Brown, Wonthaggi Primary School explained that whilst they are leaders in student wellbeing and literacy, their 112-year-old facilities are simply inadequate, and their creativity and finances are being pushed to the limit.

According to the school, the canteen has moved offsite, and the space is now a science room. The library is an art room, with the library now split between three spaces.

Their newest addition, the BER Building, is 12 years old, in need of a coat of paint and bursting at the seams.

With the school purchasing stationery and equipment to ensure no student gets left behind, their voluntary $260 per year contribution from families has seen a mere 35% uptake this year.

In its entirety this would see $108,160 to the school but instead it’s less than one teacher’s salary at $37,856.

With the rising costs on every level, the school is calling for the government to step in and stop the band-aid fixes.
