THE State Government has just increased my land tax by over 800 per cent – holiday homes and second properties across the state are being hit with this cash grab under the pretence of a COVID recovery fee. My local MP has not responded to my questions regarding the longevity of this outrage.
Is it a one off? Was any thought given to differentiating between commercial and non-commercial use? Was any consideration given to self-funded retirees? I have owned my holiday house for 25 years and it is only the last four that I have been levied land tax due to valuations going up – the same valuations that have led to huge rates increases. My property is on a dirt road, it has no mail service, no water connection, no gas connection – what exactly am I paying for?
