A night to remember at darts
Scott Lethbridge and Anders Geier faced off in the showdown for the John Stewart Memorial Singles Trophy.

WHAT an electrifying evening at the Dart Centre.

The air was thick with anticipation as 25 sharp-shooting contestants prepared to battle for the coveted John Stewart Memorial Singles Trophy.

Not just any trophy – it’s a piece of local history, hand-crafted by local identity and member Peter “The Blind Man” Murphy. Salvaging timber from the historic Isle of Wight Hotel after its devastating 2010 fire, Pete transformed it into a stunning tribute to the game and community spirit.

The night’s format was as intense as the competition itself: a best-of-three legs, 501 knockouts leading up to a nail-biting best-of-five legs final.

From the first throw, it was clear that every player was in it to win, delivering high scores and exceptional pegs throughout the rounds.

The atmosphere was electric as players showcased their skills, gradually whittling down the competition to the final two contenders: The Prez, Scott “Littler” Lethbridge and Anders “The Wizard” Geier.

Both Scott and Anders had dominated their matches, making it fitting they would face off in the ultimate showdown.

The crowd, hushed in anticipation, watched as the first leg went to Scott, who edged out Anders in a close finish.

The second leg mirrored the first, with Scott again clinching victory. Facing a do-or-die situation in the third leg, Anders fought back with high scores, keeping Scott under pressure.

But then, in a moment that left the audience in awe astonishment, Scott delivered a perfect 180, bringing both players to the peg.

Tension was palpable as they each had their chances, but it was Scott who seized the moment, securing the championship with a flawless finish.

The Dart Centre erupted in applause for “The Prez,” celebrating his hard-earned triumph.

The evening wasn’t just about the finals.

Snow walked away with the tantalising San Remo Butchers’ meat tray, Big Tony snagged the Crownies, and Bob took home the chocolates – a sweet end to an exhilarating night.

The electronic scoring system enabled the games to flow seamlessly along with the plan in keeping Johnny Batista away from chalking duties, worked a treat much to everyone’s delight.

As the crowd applauded the skill and sportsmanship on display, they eagerly look forward to round 10 of the regular season next week.

Congratulations to all the participants, and especially to Scott Lethbridge, the deserving winner of this memorable night.
