Our council meeting held Wednesday, July 17 showed an appalling and dismissive attitude towards our Cr Rochelle Halstead by Mayor Claire Le Serve.
Cr Halstead wanted to speak to her report being tabled to council (written by herself) but Mayor Le Serve deemed that the reports will forgo speaking to and they only be included in the monthly meeting minutes.
Cr Halstead queried this decision and all we heard was a belligerent bellow of “point of order” from Cr Whelan who was trying to further censure Cr Halstead.
Given the entire council meeting was just over one hour, there was no reason whatsoever that Cr Halstead could not be given the right to speak to her report.
The monthly council meetings are the ratepayers only opportunity to hear and see their elected representatives in action. To hear their thoughts and opinions about council matters.
Do our councillor’s need to be reminded again that they represent those who voted for them - their constituents - and that their aggressive attitudes have no place within council chambers.
If Cr. Rochelle wanted to speak on her report, she should have been given the time to do so. After all, the total meeting went for just over one hour so there certainly was plenty of time.
