I RESPOND to Geoff Moore’s letter ‘Where’s our Wally Councillors?’ last week regarding our current Bass Coast Councillors. I don’t entirely agree with you Geoff.
We currently have four good councillors headed by Deputy Mayor Rochelle Halstead, who as I write is currently in Canberra with Mayor Clare Le Serve desperately seeking funds from our Federal Government after being starved by this Victorian Labor Government that is broke and useless.
As Michael Giles has pointed out, Brett Tessari was at the first public meeting, but the total fault of the EOA fiasco lies not with our councillors, but with this State Government and our local government representative, who not only represents this bankrupt government, but was Bass Coast Mayor at the time when the issue of the latest environmental overlay in North Wonthaggi was first advised.
The State Government is the one that should be condemned.
The only councillors that have dropped the ball on this matter are headed by our past mayor who has a totally blinkered eye regarding climate change and cannot see past this for any other issue. He and his other five cohorts were the ones who wanted us to vote ‘Yes’ at the recent Voice referendum and totally wasted Council’s time, as they have done, and continue to do with several other matters.
They are the ones that should be removed as councillors and should be totally condemned for their disgraceful (bullyboy - you are not allowed to ask questions, or question what I am doing, and no, you can’t raise any points of order as I will ignore them) actions that have diminished the standing of this council.
I ask everyone in this shire: what has setting up of a private company to initiate conservation and climate change initiatives got to do with Council? Absolutely nothing. Councils do not, and should not, set up private companies. Another waste of Council’s time. I certainly hope my rates are not being used for this.
How about reducing the cost of living, fill in a few potholes, create more housing and shelters for the homeless, and feed those that come to the Community Centres that desperately need help? Get your priorities right!
We do have four good councillors, and they should remain if they wish to renominate; Rochelle Halstead, Brett Tessari, Les Larke and Ron Bauer. It’s also good to see that there may be others standing for council in the elections who may well stand up against this woke gobbledygook culture that has infiltrated our council. It’s time we got back to the basics that the majority of our ratepayers are wanting.
