Burglars smash and grab at Newhaven's Big Wave Complex

POLICE are at the scene of several overnight break-ins and burglaries in the Big Wave Complex at Newhaven.

Reports have been received that doors and windows have been smashed at the popular Haven Expresso Café in Bluebird Court, at the rear of the Islantis Surf Shop.

The Safflower Medical Clinic, also in Bluebird Court, Newhaven has also been broken into.

It's understood a cash register was stolen during the burglary.

Investigations are ongoing with Wonthaggi Police Crime Investigation Unit requesting any witnesses or those with information including CCTV and dash cam footage from within the area to contact the unit at Wonthaggi Police Station (5671 4100) or report anonymously at Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000 or https://www.crimestoppersvic.com.au/

Understandably, the extensive damage has been very disruptive to morning trade.

The team at The Haven have posted on social media that they will be closed for the day, Thursday, but plan to be open again on Friday.

“Well, another hurdle to jump,” they said on Facebook this morning.

“We will be closed today as we have been broken into in the middle of the night. We will be open tomorrow.”
