COWES’ famous coffee culture was thrown into chaos this morning, impacted by the statewide power catastrophe, with locals unable, or almost unable, to get their habitual morning coffee hit.
One standout exception was Mamacita's Coffee at the southern end of Thompson Avenue, where there was queue to rival a line-up for Taylor Swift tickets.
“They had a generator and at one stage, more than 150 people were lined up waiting for coffee. I guess they had nothing else to do,” said a Sentinel-Times’ reader.
“A lot of places are shut. There’s no power, no internet, so no emails and only limited Telstra service, calling to locations out of area. It’s chaos.
“I thought the shire might have set up an emergency response centre in Berninneit by now,” he said.
That’s exactly what is happening with the Bass Coast Shire Council setting up a free mobile phone charging station at Berninneit.
There’ll also be a similar opportunity at the Cowes Health Hub.
On the positive side, two supermarkets have been able to open, Aldi and Coles.
