BOOTS are still on the ground in Mirboo North as the steady flow of work continues, particularly around the northern part of the town.

Emergency Recovery Victoria has been active through local contractors under the lead contractor Hansen Yunken since February. The number of people on the ground varies depending on the tasks being undertaken.

Disaster Relief Australia (DRA) has also been engaged in the cleanup efforts in the South Gippsland Shire, including Mirboo North. DRA is currently supporting clean-up activities at the golf course and throughout the Mirboo North community, and they are expected to remain in town helping out until the end of the month.

“Our ongoing clean-up activities include removing or pruning hazardous trees on eligible properties, supporting the collection and processing of green waste and cleaning up key public amenities like the Mirboo North Golf Club,” said an Emergency Recovery Victoria spokesperson.

Meanwhile, the Mirboo North Storm Cell Volunteers have completed all tasks resulting from the storms and are now focusing on the Mirboo North Timber Reclamation Project. Volunteers have been collecting and storing wood, including eucalypts, messmate, cypress, and a bit of blackwood.

Currently, the project requires volunteers to cut and split the wood before it is milled and used for firewood for vulnerable community members or for community-based projects.

Clean-up support continues to be available for impacted eligible residents. Residents requiring support can check their eligibility and register online or by calling the Emergency Recovery Hotline on 1800 560 760.
