CROPFEST to screen local short films on gardens

2 min read

ALL GARDENERS are invited to create a short film on the theme of ‘Garden’ which will be shown on the big screen in Toora this March for CROPFEST.
The film fest’ is an opportunity for gardeners to show an aspect of their garden in a fun and creative way that entertains, inspires and celebrates gardening.
“Everyone is invited to make a little three-minute video and they can be romantic or fun or exciting or hysterical or historical,” explained Bryan Watterson, founder of CROPFEST.
Filmmakers can use their phones to create a film of any genre, except for horror, as it’s a family friendly event.
“This year, we'll hopefully attract some who missed out, or didn't get around to making their movies last year,” said Bryan.
Bryan began CROPFEST last year, as a homage to the three decades long TROPFEST and to support and bring together local gardening enthusiasts.
CROPFEST includes a wide range of short films and this year there will be movies from professional film makers, from children and their grandparents, from budding filmmakers to a comedy about a big garlic harvest.
Bryan is encouraging everyone who’s interested to get filming and send in their entries as they are needing a few more films.
They don’t have to be complex or highly professional because it’s purely for fun and isn’t a competition.
“Some people just starting out in their gardens might just show the life of a snail, or something like that,” said Bryan.
Films need to be entered be in by Wednesday February 21 to be shown at this year's CROPFEST and can be submitted on USB, or email if the file size allows, or by other arrangement with the organisers.
Everyone is invited to the go along to watch the films, to join in and be part of the fun.
There may also be a screening of local documentary, ‘The Earth Speaks’, a film about a dairy farm being turned into a forest in the Strzelecki hills.
CROPFEST will kick off at the Toora Hall on Friday March 1 at 6:30pm. Attendees are welcome to bring their own picnic rugs, food and drinks.
