Spring at The Cape Community Farm

2 min read

TO CELEBRATE spring, The Cape Community Farm is hosting a Plant Sale on Saturday, October 25, from 10am to 2pm. All are invited for a great family day out at ‘The Farm’.

On offer will be a huge array of vegetable seedlings, annual flowers, and a wide selection of local native landscape plants for sale. Adrian, our community farmer, will be on-site with guidance on planting, plant selection and seasonal tips to set you up for a productive, abundant growing season. Also, on the day, there will be farm tours guided by passionate farm members, hands-on and interactive kids’ activities, BBQ, and refreshments available for purchase.

You’ll have an opportunity to learn about some of the key features of The Farm and how it has been set up to be a highly productive growing space.

One of these is the Foodcube wicking garden bed. Adrian explains that “The wicking garden beds are essentially water tanks and garden in one. They capture rain and deliver water as plants need it, maintaining ideal soil moisture levels at all times and encouraging rapid and healthy growth. Typical yields are between 10-20 kilograms per m2, depending on how a plot is managed throughout the year”.

Enjoying the support of over 80 members, ‘The Farm’ provides a community hub nestled in the heart of The Cape at Cape Paterson. It is a great place for the local community to gather, learn, share skills and access fresh, organically grown vegetables. The Cape Community Farm also gives back to the local community with regular donations to Mitchell House in Wonthaggi, contributing to the weekly community lunch program and to the Free Food verandah.

Please park in the car park on Sunlight Boulevard, Cape Paterson and walk down the hill. The Community Farm is located adjacent to the playground. Local pedestrian
access is also available via the Coral Street lane. We are a Land for Wildlife property, and all dogs must remain on lead.

October 25.
