Council can and must do better

I AM appalled watching the Bass Coast Council Meeting Wednesday, March 20, 2024 and the councillors attitude towards one another.

Both Cr Whelan and Mayor Le Serve’s rude, aggressive and dismissive attitude towards Cr Halstead was uncalled for and certainly unwarranted. This is not the first time we have seen such behaviour and attitude.

Cr Larke, who is a long serving elected representative of the Bunurong ward, has been on the pointy end of Cr Whelan, Cr Tessari and Cr Laing’s barbed attitudes and demeanour for countless months and it is never ending.

Do these councillors need reminding that they are there to represent those who voted for them, their constituents, and that their aggressive attitudes have no place within council chambers.

You are representing us, we of many thousands of ratepayers, and we expect more. There is a cry out for more diverse representation of ratepayers via new councillors. Yet when this continued behaviour keeps occurring within council meetings, it makes us all question why we would ever consider joining the fray and subjecting ourselves to this aggressive and bullying rudeness that we are constantly seeing. You can and must do better.
