DALYSTON claimed a convincing win over Korumburra-Bena in the Anzac Round on Saturday.

Dalyston Football Netball Club thanked the Wonthaggi RSL for its support on the day.

The RSL was honoured to be asked to hold a service before the Senior match.

It was a game played in good spirits throughout all four quarters.

Keen to make an impression, Dalyston  delivered a mighty first half.

Mitch Hallahan was instrumental in Dalyston’s victory, earning him the Anzac medal, judged by the umpires.

His ability to keep the ball moving into the forward line was key to the game.

Hayden Wallis and Brad Monson both played impressive games, being effective forward targets for their team.

Wallis led Dalyston’s goal kicking efforts with his four-goal tally.

Jaxon Foon and Dino Karamoshos added three each.

Kurt Thomas played his best game of the season yet in the ruck.

The Magpies held an impressive 58-point lead at halftime, with the Giants struggling to have an impact on the scoreboard.

In the second half, Korumburra-Bena demonstrated its determination and continued to fight.

Korumburra-Bena’s coach Josh Hopkins reminded his team what needed to be done, and it responded accordingly with increased pressure across the back half.

Rhys Dixon managed to get a lot of intercepts, which were sent deep into Korumburra-Bena’s forward line, creating more opportunities for the Giants to score.

Joel Cuman and Kye Benson were lively in the midfield, and Mitchell Wightman was vital out wide.

The midfield rotation was a crucial element to Korumburra-Bena’s prospects and worked more effectively later in the game.

Korumburra-Bena’s goal scoring efforts increased in the second half, shared between multiple goal kickers.

Despite the push, Dalyston continued to give its workman-like performance to storm ahead to a 70-point victory.

Post-match Hallahan commended his team for producing their first four quarter effort of the season.

While paying credit to the Giants saying the  scoreboard didn’t reflect the true evenness of the contest.

In round 4 Korumburra-Bena  face Nar Nar Goon away, which will be another tough task, while Dalyston head to Bunyip.
