I REFER to your article titled, Farmers slugged again, in the South Gippsland Sentinel-Times dated July 16, 2024.

I am all for a Rate Review, I am all for a Rate Cap Review and I am all for a Federal Government’s Operating Grants Review.

Thank you for bringing up the Ararat Rural City Council. I think your readers would be interested to read that the small shire of Ararat gets operating grants of $8.323 million or $701 per person.

Here in the Bass Coast we get operating grants of $9.536 million or $223 per person.

And the people in South Gippsland Shire get $13.868 million or $450 per person.

The Federal Government is treating the people of the Bass Coast in a grossly unfair way. This is outrageous.

We are being short-changed by the Federal Government to the tune of $20 million per year.

$20 million goes a long way to fixing some of the infrastructure issues in the Bass Coast.

Why don’t we hear from our CEOs on this major issue. Why are our Councillors not screaming from the rooftops over this major issue?
