ON SUNDAY, September 18, the Gippsland Soccer League Grand Final was held at Newhaven Recreation Reserve.

Phillip Island Soccer Club hosted a great day with eight matches played throughout the day in mostly dry weather.

The first match was U14 with Drouin Dragons White and Drouin Dragons Maroon competing for the win. Drouin White won the match 2-1.

The U12B match between Phillip Island and Drouin Dragons Yellow was nail biting for all the players and spectators.
The game went into extra time and was drawn 4 all after extra time. Penalties decided the winning team, with Drouin Dragons Yellow scoring an extra penalty goal over Phillip Island.

In the U17 Mixed match Leongatha Knights dominated over Drouin Dragons with a 7-0 final score.

Korumburra City went in as favourites against Drouin Dragons for the U12A match as they were undefeated all season.

They struggled during the first half with Drouin in the lead 3-0, but Korumburra fought back in the second half and won the match 5-3.

The senior women and men reserves were hit by the most rain of the day during their matches.

Both games were action packed but the scores were one sided.

Drouin defeated Trafalgar Victory 3-0 in the men’s reserves.

Leongatha Knights defeated Phillip Island 3-0 in the senior women.

In the U17 Girls match Leongatha Knights were up 1-0 after the first half, but
Wonthaggi United scored 2 goals in the second half which won them the game.

Trafalgar Victory went into finals as fourth on the senior men ladder and beat first placed Leongatha during the semi-finals.

They battled with Phillip Island on Sunday with scores one all at half time.

Each time Phillip Island scored a goal in the second half Trafalgar would match it.

Phillip Island managed to stay ahead at the final whistle and won the match 5-4.

The Gippsland Soccer League would like to thank all their clubs, players and volunteers for a great 2022 season.
