THE LDCA kicked off its GCL season on Sunday with a six-wicket win over Warragul Cricket Association in Under 18s competition.
Warragul was all out for 90, LDCA replying with 4/91.
It was a unique set of circumstances with the LDCA boys lining up for a representative game despite their local competition not yet getting underway after its first two rounds were washed out.
The Under 18s LDCA team this season is being led off field by team managers Brian Gannon and Andrew Dakin with captain Tadgh Gannon and vice captain Harry Butcher steering the ship onfield.
On Sunday, Warragul won the toss and elected to bat first on the Drouin Football Oval, with Tim Niven 1/12 off eight overs and Aydan Williams 4/10 from six overs opening the attack superbly for the LDCA, Williams claiming three early scalps to have the Warragul team in trouble.
Tyson Harris, with 2/15 off seven overs, bowled a great spell of leg spin in partnership with Matt Dakin who captured 2/13 off four overs, the pair helping ensure a steady fall of wickets.
It was a strong team performance with the ball for LDCA with all seven bowlers used doing well.
Campbell Reid was efficient with the keeping duties, Isaac Seuren took two impressive catches and Jesse Dugard made a good run out, all contributing to the cause.
Chasing 90 the LDCA boys went about it sensibly.
Matt Dakin and Harry West opened the innings, Dakin playing a busy knock (19) and West (20) showing his usual great temperament to get the LDCA off to a solid start.
Captain Gannon (15) then worked the ball around well to get within striking distance before being trapped in front by Walsh, and Isaac Seuren (11no) and Harry Butcher (5no) then steered the LDCA home with 20 overs to spare.
After a strong performance, despite its lack of preparation, LDCA’s Under 18s outfit will face Sale Maffra at home on November 12.
