KORUMBURRA Basketball Association’s 38th annual tournament was a great success, attracting 139 teams representing towns stretching from Bairnsdale to Phillip Island.

Over 1500 players, coaches and team managers were part of the action, with matches ranging from Under 10s through to Under 19s.

In addition to its hosting responsibilities, Korumburra was well represented on court, with the Wildcats winning the Under 19 girls Grand Final against the Traralgon T-Birds and the Under 14 girls A Grade decider against Traralgon Maroon.

Korumburra was runner-up in Under 12 girls A Grade and Under 16 girls competitions.

Wonthaggi Coasters came out on top in the Under 16 girls decider.

Foster Breakers triumphed in Under 10 boys B Grade action, seeing off Traralgon Maroon in the Grand Final, and finished runner-up to Phillip Island Rips in the Under 12 girls B Grade decider.

Saturday’s matches were held in six locations, with more than 130 games played, while about 95 games took place on Sunday shared between four locations.

As well as matches at Korumburra Indoor Recreation Centre, Wonthaggi North Primary School, Bass Coast Community Stadium, Meeniyan Basketball Stadium, Poowong and District Sports Centre, and Korumburra Secondary College hosted games.

She thanked those in charge of all the stadiums involved in the tournament for their contributions and noted that a number of parents continue to sacrifice their time to make it a great event even long after their children have finished participating.
