Milly’s Mission runs for the kids
Nine family members from Wonthaggi participated as part of Milly’s Mission team, to Run for the Kids, raising over $2000 for the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) Good Friday Appeal.

RUN for the Kids raises money to support the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) Good Friday Appeal and was held on Sunday, April 6, with a local Wonthaggi team participating.

The team of nine family members participated as part of the Milly’s Mission team to help raise money for the RCH, who have played a major role in helping get local toddler Milly Wagenaar well again.

Two-year-old Milly underwent surgery to control seizures at RCH approximately a year ago, which was followed by weeks of intensive rehabilitation in hospital, followed by ongoing rehabilitation at home and regular checkups at the RCH; she has since come along in leaps and bounds.

The team of joggers wore matching pink t-shirts with Milly’s picture on them.

Some team members ran the five-kilometres and others like Milly’s Mum and Dad, took on the 14-kilometres.

“We did the 14-kilometre run, it was a challenge and very sore today but it was all worth it,” stated Amy, Milly’s Mum.

The goal of Milly’s Mission was to raise $1000, however the team managed to double this amount and raised just over $2000 for the Good Friday Appeal.

“We are overwhelmed with the support and donations; from the bottom of our hearts, we’d like to thank everyone who donated and supported us,” said Amy.

The official Good Friday Appeal will be held this Friday, April 18, but donations can be made at any time.

Donations mean that the RCH can continue to provide world-class care to patients and their families.

From 2022 to 2023, 90,260 patients presented to the Emergency Department at RCH, 50,345 children and young people were admitted to a ward, 407,563 children and young people attended an outpatient appointment, and 14,963 patients underwent surgery.
